Slope (8th grade math/algebra 1)

Slope is a measure of the steepness of a line. How can we measure steepness using a single number? Find out in this video! We will also calculate the slope for a variety of lines, including those where the scaling on the grid is not uniform, nor by ones.

In this second part on the concept of slope, we'll first look at a diagram that helps prove that it doesn't matter which two points you use to calculate the slope.

Then, using a similar diagram, we find the unknown length (x) in the diagram. The idea is that the ratio of "rise to run" or "rise/run" is the same, no matter which triangle you use.

Lastly, in part 3, we have some practice exercises for finding the slope of a line with two given points. Also, we find the slope of a line graphed in a scaled grid (scaling is not by ones), and lastly, I show you how to graph a line with a given slope and a point it goes through.
