Frequently Asked Questions: The Different Series / General Questions
Please check out first this page, which contains an overview of the different series of materials, and includes some pointers as to which type of books to choose for many common situations.

1. What is the difference between the "blue" and the "light blue" series?
The books in the Blue Series do not mention grade levels in the lessons. Most of the Blue series books cover a particular topic for a particular grade, but some cover the topic for 2-3 neighboring grade levels (e.g. Clock, Money, Geometry 1).
The Blue Series books are great for review, reinforcement, and filling in gaps.
Each grade level consists of two student worktexts (A and B), which contain both the teaching (explanations) and all of the student work (exercises). For each level, you will also get a versatile worksheet maker (Internet access required). Levels 1-8 also include answer keys, chapter tests, and additional cumulative review worksheets.
This series suits just about everybody. It suits:
- homeschooling parents;
- parents of children in public school who wish to have additional math material that goes by grade levels;
- School teachers who need supportive materials for students of various abilities, or who wish to use Math Mammoth as their main instructional material.
2. Do the Blue and Light Blue have the same material?
They have the same lesson material. The Light Blue series additionally includes chapter tests, cumulative and mixed review lessons, and a worksheet maker.
3. What is the Skills Review series of workbooks?
The Skills Review workbooks are designed to provide spiral review of the concepts and skills in the main curriculum (Light Blue), and to be used during the school year, alongside the main curriculum. After a concept or skill has been studied in the main curriculum, it is then reviewed repeatedly over time in several different worksheets of the workbook.
I recommend that you ONLY get a skills review workbook IF your child or student really needs more review than what is provided in the main curriculum. I suggest you first use the main curriculum for a month or two before deciding to get a skills review workbook.
4. What are the Review Workbooks?
Math Mammoth review workbooks are intended to give students a thorough review of a particular grade level of math, following the main areas of math for that grade.
Each book has both topical as well as mixed (spiral) review worksheets, and includes both per-topic tests and a comprehensive end-of-the-year test. The tests can also be used as review worksheets, instead of tests.
They work well to prepare students who are going into a specific grade, or to give students who are not using MM as their main curriculum extra practice during the school year.
They are also a great solution to provide review of concepts if you're using multiple books from the Blue series to fill in gaps for an extended period of time (e.g. several months).
Note: The CONTENT for these workbooks comes from the corresponding level of the Light Blue series (the mixed reviews, chapter reviews, tests, and cumulative reviews). Therefore, these workbooks contain duplicate content with the Light Blue Series.
