First we look at decimals with two decimal digits on the number line and learn how the second digit after the decimal point is the hundredths place.
Then we look at these numbers illustrated by a visual model of a square divided into 100 parts. We write both the decimal and the fraction associated with each picture.
An important point to grasp is that 0.3 equals 0.30, or that three tenths is equal to thirty hundredths. This is why we can read 0.38 as "38 hundredths".
Lastly we practice writing decimals as fractions or mixed numbers, and vice versa.

In this second part of the lesson, we compare and order decimals that have one or two decimal digits, and also compare them with fractions.
