1. What is the difference between the "blue", the "golden", the "green", and the "light blue" series?

The BLUE SERIES are worktexts with explanations in between the problems. In other words, the 'text' and the 'work' (=problems) alternate. These are perfect for those parents who have a weak math background. Also, with the worktexts one lesson spans several pages instead of just one page.
The worktexts have a blue cover.

The GOLDEN SERIES are grade level collections of worksheets: just one-page worksheets without any explanations. They are just math problems, like you'd find in a math book, one topic per page, especially designed for teachers - or parents - who wish to have worksheets to give for homework or to work at class, but who will provide the explanations and teaching themselves.
These grade-level worksheet collections have a golden / orange cover.

The GREEN SERIES are collections of worksheets by topic. They are one-page worksheets without any explanations, but concentrating on one topic per book. The books contain worksheets of various difficulty across several grade levels. These are perfect for teachers again.
These per topic worksheet collections have a green cover.

The LIGHT BLUE SERIES is a complete math curriculum. I currently have it available for grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5-A. Each grade contains two worktexts, answer keys, and tests.

3. I am considering buying the Blue Series set for my first and fourth grader. Would this set cover the same information as the Golden Series grade-level sets or do the grade sets have other topics?

The Golden series books are a later work and include a some material from the Blue Series books. In particular, Grade 3 Worksheets Collection includes a lot of material from Multiplication 1, Division 1, and a few others.

The other grades in the Golden have very little same material with the Blue Series books.

4. Would the combo pack of Blue, Golden and Green constitute a complete curriculum?

The Golden is NOT a complete curriculum since it's lacking the "text" or the explanations part. It is complete as far as the list of topics goes, but all it contains is problems. The same is true of Green.

The Blue is a complete curriculum for grades 1-4. It has some material for grade but it doesn't yet cover every single concept/topic for it. Please check the book list for Blue Series books here and see the topics it covers. This will change as I write more material.

5. Is the Blue series a complete curriculum?

As of this writing, it is complete for grades 1-4. I will be writing more material to it to make all 5th grade topics covered also.

Keep in mind that several of the books in the Blue Series cover material for several grade levels in one book. It is NOT organized exactly by grade levels.

6. Do the Blue and Light Blue have the same material?

Nearly so. There are a few minor differences; for example Blue Series Geometry 1 has material not included in the Light Blue grades 1-4. The Light Blue 5th grade has material that is not (currently) in any of the Blue Series books. Also, the Light Blue Series includes tests and cumulative reviews not found in the Blue Series books.

7. Are tests included in any of your books?

Yes, the Light Blue Series has tests, including placement tests.

8. How and where to order?

*Order processing at Kagi takes 1-2 hours; I do not know how quick it is at the other stores.

Printed copies

You can buy printed copies of the Blue, Golden, and Light Blue series books at Lulu.com. You can find a links to the printed copy also on each individual book's page (right sidebar).

Winterpromise sells printed copies for the Light Blue series books along with CDs.

By purchasing any of the books, permission IS granted for the teacher (or parent) to reproduce this material to be used with his/her students in a teaching situation; not for commercial resale. However, you are not permitted to share the material with another teacher.

In other words, you are permitted to make copies for the students/children you are teaching, but not for other teachers' usage.

9. Do all the workbooks come with answer keys?

Yes.

The BLUE series books have answers appended.

All of the GOLDEN series books, as well as most of the GREEN series books, have a separate answer key file. Some in the GREEN series books have answers appended.

The LIGHT BLUE series books' answer keys are included in the download or on the CD.

10. Can I buy the books as hardcopies (printed versions)?

Yes. The BLUE, GOLDEN, and LIGHT BLUE series books are available as softcopies (printed books) through Lulu.com's storefront for Math Mammoth. They are black-and-white (or grayscale) and not full color because full color publishing is fairly costly.

11. In which order should I study the Blue Series books?

Please click here to read the answer.

12. I'm confused and at a loss as to where to start my kids? Do you have placement tests?

Please click here for placement advice for the Blue Series books. For the Ligh tBlue Series there are placement tests on this page.

13. How does the complete curriculum (Light Blue books) compare with Singapore math?

Please read comparisons of Math Mammoth with other curricula here.

14. How do I pace the Light Blue curriculum? How many pages or worksheets per day should the child do?

You can check how many pages there are to do (this is mentioned on the web page of the book, below the cover image), and how many days of school you have in mind... then to get a "pages/day" number, divide the number of pages by the number of days.

This should be between 1 and 2 assuming you do school 5 days a week, about 40 weeks a year. If you do 4 days a week, 36 weeks a year, you will probably get close to 2 pages a day.

So 1-2 pages a day is sufficient. In 1st grade, 1 to 1.5 pages is enough, and in 3rd you need to go quicker. However you need to pace it depending on how the lesson goes. Sometimes you might be able to go through several pages and sometimes you cannot do but one page.

Also in some topics this may go quicker, for example clock pictures can fill a page so that one page does not have many problems.

Really, there are no hard and fast rules. You can't think that you continue the lesson until the kid gets it... because the kid may get tired, or close his/her mind for the day. If you find yourself in a situation like banging your head against a wall, the child is not getting something even though you try for weeks, you may have to drop the concept and come back to it in a few months... let their brains mature meanwhile.

That's the nice thing about homeschool. You don't have to make it some kind of definite marching pace, "no matter what" type of thing, but you can take breaks or perhaps change to geometry for a while if subtraction is difficult... come back to it later, etc.

15. Why does kagi store show different prices than what is posted on your website?

Kagi store automatically shows the prices in your local currency, if it can. So if you are in Australia, you will see the prices on the Kagi order page in Australian dollars. If you are located in Canada, the prices at Kagi order page will be in Canadian dollars. All the prices on this website are in U.S. dollars.

16. What is the copyright notice or license when using these books?

The copyright license is for a single teacher use. One teacher (owner of the materials) is allowed to print and copy the materials to his/her students, however many those might be. In a family situation, the parent is naturally considered to be this teacher.

Sharing between teachers is not allowed. Each teacher should buy his/her own copy.

School licensing or other similar situations: please ask.

Here's the copyright notice as it is found in the books:
Copying permission: Permission IS granted to reproduce this material to be used with one (1) teacher's students by virtue of the purchase of this book. In other words, one (1) teacher MAY make copies of these worksheets to be used with his/her students. Permission is not given to reproduce the material for resale. If you have other needs, such as school-wide licensing, contact the author at www.MathMammoth.com/contact.php.

17. How many word problems are in your materials? From the samples it seems most pages don't have any word problems.

I feel I have put lots of word problems into my books. They tend to be on the last page of a lesson (Blue & Light Blue), and not on the first page of the lesson (the lessons are typically 2-4 pages long) - and for the samples, I usually tend to use the first page of a particular lesson since it shows how the concept is taught. So, that is why the samples do not really show much of the word problems.

18. Are 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B.....in the Light Blue package exactly the same as 3A, 3B, .....in Gold package?

No. The Light Blue and Golden were written at different times and for different purposes, so they are not written to match each other. The Golden is an earlier work, written for a tutoring company. The Light Blue is a later work and written as a complete curriculum.
